In the Dream House: A Memoir and revolutionary story about the domestic abuse experienced by the award-winning author of Her Body and Other Parties.
In In the Dream House Carmen Maria Machado’s presents her engrossing account of a relationship gone bad openly to all readers. So much is available to dig into on the page, including mechanisms and cultural representations of psychological abuse. Her harrowing relationship with a charismatic but volatile woman, Machado struggles to make sense of how what happened to her shaped the person she was becoming.
With so many intriguing chapters telling their own stories from the author’s life, this is a hard one to put down. While the title presented something not quite the same for me, but the true presentations have enamored me with her tale. Take a look into “her religious adolescence, [as she] unpacks the stereotype of lesbian relationships as safe and utopian, and widens the view with essayistic explorations of the history and reality of abuse in queer relationships.”
An amazing memoir…
There’s certainly a great deal to know about this topic. I like all of the points you’ve made.
