With so many fitness trends, how to decide which is the best for you

This is one of the hardest times of the year to maintain that regular workout schedule! I admit that I am already falling behind on those trips to the gym. But, what should we do to help determine the best exercise for each of us, as well as the combinations of workouts that we can fit into that everyday schedule that has us running non-stop?

Do you have the time to spend on the treadmill or the bike to burn off the calories from all those amazing holiday meals? From the workplace parties and nights out with friends? All those little treats that make their way in while you are out shopping for everyone’s gifts? Sometimes I think the phrase “there aren’t enough hours in the day” comes from the many things we try to get done at this time of year.

One tip that I have received over and over again when it comes to working out for the most calorie and fat burning together there needs to be some resistance included. While some of it may be the hand weights, there are also some that include yoga and pilates along with things as simple as trips up and down the steps at work or your own home. There is no reason to stay away from physical activity just because there is so much to do! When there are a few minutes here and there, some squats and extra steps can add to the activity needed to burn some calories on a regular basis. You don’t need to make a trip to the gym in heavy traffic or bad weather if there is a worry over driving. Just fit it into the normal schedule of your day!
