Here we have a list of some of the most-read books so far this month. This may not be the entire list, as there are SEVERAL Harry Potter books included in this list, but there are also many other much newer items that remain here. I know that I have already shared some of these books with you in the past, but in knowing the attention that they have received from many other readers right now, it could be helpful to find some of those books that could be quite interesting and entertaining for you. We all have a lot more time at home right now, and many of us are alone. Believe it or not, books can help you fill up a lot of that empty time, so take a look and see if any of these would help you out!
Remember that this list is updated weekly on Amazon, and there will always be options that change regularly. It seems like many people want Harry Potter, but there are also some brand new entries to this list at this point as well. So, take a look at some of these and see if they would be the perfect read for you:
- When We Believed in Mermaids – Josie Bianci was killed during a terrorist attack. It’s what her sister, Kit, an ER doctor in Santa Cruz, always believed. However, a few heart-wrenching seconds upend Kit’s world with live coverage of a club fire in Auckland captured the image of a woman unmistakably resembling Josie stumbling through the smoke and debris. A flood of emotions—grief, loss, and anger—upon finding her sister’s been living a lie. Kit arrives in New Zealand and begins her journey with the memories of the past. Now, if two sisters are to reunite, it can only be by unearthing long-buried secrets and facing a devastating truth that has kept them apart far too long. To regain their relationship, they may have to lose everything.
- The Dutch House – At the end of WWII, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother. The two wealthy siblings are thrown back into the poverty their parents had escaped from and find that all they have to count on is one another. It is this unshakable bond between them that both saves their lives and thwarts their futures. Set over the course of five decades, The Dutch House is a dark fairy tale about two smart people who cannot overcome their past. Despite every outward sign of success, Danny and Maeve are only truly comfortable when they’re together. Throughout their lives, they return to the well-worn story of what they’ve lost with humor and rage. But when at last they’re forced to confront the people who left them behind, the relationship between an indulged brother and his ever-protective sister is finally tested.
- In an Instant – Life is over in an instant for 16-year-old Finn Miller when a devastating car accident tumbles her and ten others over the side of a mountain. Suspended between worlds, she watches helplessly as those she loves struggle to survive. Impossible choices are made, decisions that leave the survivors tormented with grief and regret. Unable to let go, Finn keeps vigil as they struggle to reclaim their shattered lives. Jack, her father, who seeks vengeance against the one person he can blame other than himself; her best friend, Mo, who bravely searches for the truth as the story of their survival is rewritten; her sister Chloe, who knows Finn lingers and yearns to join her; and her mother, Ann, who saved them all but is haunted by her decisions. Finn needs to move on, but how can she with her family still in pieces? Heartrending yet ultimately redemptive, In an Instant is a story about the power of love, the meaning of family, and carrying on…even when it seems impossible.
- Smoke Bitten – I am Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman. My only “superpowers” are that I turn into a 35-pound coyote and fix Volkswagens. But I have friends in odd places and a pack of werewolves at my back. It looks like I’m going to need them. Centuries ago, the fae dwelt in Underhill—until she locked her doors against them. They left behind their great castles and troves of magical artifacts. They abandoned their prisoners and their pets. Without the fae to mind them, those creatures who remained behind roamed freely through Underhill wreaking havoc. Only the deadliest survived. Now one of those prisoners has escaped. It can look like anyone, any creature it chooses. But if it bites you, it controls you. It lives for chaos and destruction. It can make you do anything—even kill the person you love the most. Now it is here, in the Tri-Cities. In my territory. It won’t, can’t, remain. Not if I have anything to say about it.
